2016-17 Schedule

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE has seven home dates at the Vadalabene Center on the 2016-17 wrestling schedule plus an in-state matchup at a prep wrestling venue.

SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates announced the schedule Wednesday and is especially pleased that his Cougars will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships that will be held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis in March.

"The schedule is similar to years past," he said. "We just made some adjustments. We're going to start out with three tournaments before beginning our dual meet schedule."

The season begins Nov. 5 with the Cougars travelling to the Grand View Open.

"We have a great home schedule, which I am really excited about this season," said Spates.

SIUE, which won its last five home matches last season, looks to keep its string of victories in place as it welcomes Indiana and North Dakota State to the Vadalabene Center for a triangular Dec. 4.

On Dec. 7, SIUE has a short drive to the Jon Davis Center in Edwardsville where the Cougars will face off against the University of Illinois.

The Southern Conference schedule begins Dec. 18 for SIUE with a home match against Appalachian State. On Dec. 19, the Cougars take on Purdue for a home match.

SIUE's home schedule also includes Chattanooga (Jan. 21), Davidson (Jan. 22), Gardner-Webb (Jan. 28) and South Dakota State (Jan. 28).

Spates also touted two special road contests. On Jan. 14, SIUE and Northern Illinois will meet in Springfield, Illinois, before the IKWF (Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation) state tournament. On Feb. 15, the Cougars will close out the dual meet season against Missouri, wrestling the night before the Missouri state championships in Columbia, Missouri.

"That will be awesome to showcase our wrestlers to some of the best youth wrestlers in Illinois and Missouri," said Spates.

SIUE's road dual meets include Northwestern (Dec. 10), VMI (Jan. 7), George Mason (Jan. 7), Citadel (Feb. 8) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 11).

The Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 4 in Charleston, S.C., with individuals looking to qualifying for the national championships.

"We're excited that the nationals are returning to St. Louis and would like to have Cougar Nation well represented this year," said Spates.
