EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville let a 13 point halftime lead slip away as they fell to Lewis 65-55 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Friday night at the Vadalabene Center.
SIUE drops to 1-3, 0-1 in the GLVC. The Flyers improve to 2-2, 1-0 in conference play.
After taking a 39-26 lead at the break SIUE managed to make only five field goals in the second half as they were outscored 39-16 by Lewis. The Cougars shot 35 percent from the field for the game. The Flyers netted 41 percent of their shots.
Tanay Guell led SIUE with 14 points. Lindy Carey chipped in 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Julianne McMillen notched 10 points. Amy Austin had a career-high eight rebounds and five assists.
Darcee Schmidt had 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for the Flyers. Shante Glenn was seven of 11 from the field for 15 points. Lewis committed 10 turnovers in the the contest with the Cougars making 18.
SIUE travels to Oakland City Tuesday at 6 p.m. before returning home for another GLVC game against Southern Indiana on Thursday at the Vadalabene Center.
