EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE Director of Athletics Tim Hall has announced that the University will pursue a change in leadership in the softball program.
Head Coach Jessica Jones will transition into an administrative role within the department.
"I thank Coach Jones for her service to the softball program at SIUE," Hall added. "I look forward to working with her off the field. We look forward to seeing Coach Jones share her talents administratively with the department as a whole."
Hired as just the third fulltime head coach in program history in July 2019, Jones spent the 2019 season as Interim Head Coach. She joined SIUE softball as an assistant coach prior to the 2014 season.
"I have been given the opportunity to step into an administrative role which has always been a long-term goal," Jones said. "Given all variables, it is the right fit for me and my family. Considering I was on maternity leave for part of the season, the timing makes sense for the program to transition into new leadership. I am blessed to have been a part of such a prestigious program and SIUE will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will miss the relationships and bonds made with my players, past and present. I will continue to follow and support them as they transition into today's leaders."
The University will begin an immediate national search for the new head coach.
